The Hensley is a boutique multi residential building comprising 44 apartments. The project partially restores and adapts an existing 1920s heritage boarding house – respecting and preserving Potts Point’s treasured Art Deco architecture by allowing heritage aspects of the existing building to influence a contextual narrative throughout. The Hensley’s form and scale respond directly to the retained heritage component and the heights of adjacent buildings. Externally, the ateriality responds to the local context – with the use of brick referencing the same material present in the surrounding art deco buildings. A cladded upper provides a modern, contrasting response to the current period.
