Millie Phillips Building by Emanuel Synagogue

In 2011 the Emanuel Synagogue resolved to build a new sanctuary to accommodate it’s growing congregation. The new Millie Philips Building is named after its principal donor and was completed in November 2018. The building, designed by architect Ed Lippmann, fulfils the Synagogue’s vision to be not only a place of prayer, but one of communal engagement, regularly hosting concerts, cinema nights, exhibitions, talks and many other activities that transcend the congregation and include the broader community. The symbolism integrated in the artwork, choice of materials and even the structure, imbue the building with its inherently religious quality.
