Policy Standing Committees
LAND RELEASE AND HOUSING DELIVERY
The Land Release and Housing Delivery Policy Standing Committee considers and reviews the planning and regulatory frameworks that apply to the development of housing in greenfield areas. Committee members include experienced and prominent experts in greenfield development, including developers, consultants, planners and service providers.
The Committees main functions are to:
- Develop and advocate for policies that encourage greenfield development and address the housing shortfall.
- Develop and advocate the adoption of policies that improve the coordination of infrastructure planning, funding and land supply across NSW.
- Encourage the Government to release accurate and real-time population, housing, dwelling construction and employment projections.
- Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to land supply and housing delivery.

Urban Renewal
The Urban Renewal Policy Standing Committee considers and reviews the planning and regulatory frameworks that apply to the development of housing in established areas. Committee members include experts in infill development, including developers, urban designers, planners and architects.
The Committee’s main functions are to:
- Develop and advocate for policies that encourage urban infill and renewal
- Develop feasibilities and the business case for urban renewal locations and infrastructure investment
- Advocate for transformational urban renewal projects that would assist Government in addressing the housing shortfall.
- Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to urban renewal.

Planning and Regulatory Affairs
The Planning and Regulatory Affairs Policy Standing Committee considers and reviews the planning and regulatory framework as it applies to the urban development industry to assist in the timely and affordable provision of dwellings in metropolitan and regional NSW. Committee members include some of the industries most skilful and influential planning and legal experts.
The Committee’s main functions are to:
- Inform UDIA NSW Secretariat and its membership of emerging issues and policy and legislative changes that may impact on the urban development industry.
- Provide advice and recommendations on planning and regulatory reform.
- Review relevant draft and gazetted legislation and prepare advice and recommendations to be submitted to the relevant Government Agency.
- Direct and provide input to submissions on government/councils’ draft policies
- Provide advice on lobbying required with government to achieve positive reform outcomes for the industry.
- Assist in the formulation of the UDIA NSW annual policy agenda.

Infrastructure, Investment and Taxation
The Infrastructure, Investment and Taxation Policy Standing Committee considers and reviews the planning and regulatory frameworks that apply to the infrastructure requirements of NSW, how infrastructure should be financed and taxation implications of development. The Committee includes experienced developers, planners, consultants, lawyers and accountants.
The Committee’s main functions are to:
- Reduce development levies and homebuyer charges to encourage housing production and competition.
- Advocate for and support achievable plans for infrastructure in NSW as a way to encourage housing production and development.
- Investigate and advocate for alternative ways to finance local and community infrastructure.
- Participate in policy reviews, inquiries and discussions relating to infrastructure, investment and taxation.

EMPLOYMENT LANDS
This will be a newly formed UDIA NSW Committee in 2013 and its charter is currently being devised, to foster the delivery and development of employment lands.
