UDIA Response to Draft Practice Note: Voluntary Planning Agreements November 2016
After reviewing exhibition documentation and the submission by the Independent Regulatory and Regulatory Tribunal, UDIA NSW made a submission to the Department of Planning and Environment recommending that the Draft Practice Note not be adopted for the following reasons:
Development Assessment Best Practice Guide For Councils
On 21 March 2017 the Planning Minister, the Hon. Anthony Roberts, MP released the Development Assessment Best Practice Guide.
The latest NSW Government forecasts show that by 2036 NSW will be home to an additional 2.1 million residents. Local Councils will continue to be the engine room for facilitating new housing to accommodate this growth.
Update on Local Government Elections
The following Sydney Metropolitan Council amalgamations are still officially proposed (but not yet implemented) due to being involved in litigation:
- Ku‑ring-gai and Hornsby local councils;
- Mosman, North Sydney and Willoughby local councils;
- Canada Bay and Strathfield local councils;
- Mosman, North Sydney and Willoughby councils; and
- Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick local councils.

Draft Architecture and Design Policy
The NSW Government recently launched a draft Architecture and Design Policy for New South Wales. The draft policy which has been developed by the NSW Government Architect, lays the foundation for a design led planning strategy. Good design is essential for positive outcomes from future developments.

The Urban Development Institute of Australia (UDIA) NSW Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Albin has announced the appointment of its 26th President, Mr Arthur Ilias, an active member of the UDIA NSW with 25 years’ experience in the development industry.
