Following the success of the past seven international study tours, in 2019 UDIA NSW will be travelling to the Netherlands and Germany via Dubai. The 2018 Study Tour visited Hong Kong, Manchester and London and was the first time continental European cities had been included in a UDIA NSW Study Tour itinerary. Feedback received from last year’s delegates was very positive and highlighted a strong interest to include other European cities on future tours.
Following a two-day whirlwind tour of Dubai, the glittering ‘instant city in the desert’, we will travel to the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, where city-making has been shaped around the city’s famous canals, and strong population growth is accommodated through innovative urban design and urban rejuvenation strategies. These strategies are aided by various smart technology and mobility systems. The tour then moves over the German border to the prosperous & bustling port city of Hamburg which was crowned Europe’s ‘Green Capital’ in 2011 and features excellent global exemplars of large scale integrated urban renewal. The final leg of the tour takes us to the historic city of Berlin. The city underwent a rejuvenation thanks to a torn-down wall, a reunified country, and an influx of young, entrepreneurial trendsetters from around the world. Here we will closely examine how Berlin developers have sought to accommodate strong population growth through a range of innovative mixed-tenure approaches within a thoroughly compact and connected metropolis.
The UDIA NSW International Study Tour 2019 itinerary has been designed specifically for leaders in the Australian development industry from both the public and private sectors. Tour delegates will meet with local and international developers, consultants and other officials to exchange views and ideas. The tour offers a learning and networking experience not to be missed with industry leaders from Australia, Dubai, Netherlands & Germany.
