Located in the heart of Parramatta CBD, 1 Parramatta Square (1PSQ) is a pivotal development reimagining traditional benchmarks to provide a new model of interactive commercial, education and retail space integrated within the urban domain. 1PSQ showcases how future-focused workspaces and learning environments can deliver smarter energy-efficient buildings and revitalised CBD precincts.
Market interest was immediate with strong covenants secured on long tenures resulting in an outstanding success for investors and end-users. WSU were signed as the whole-of-building tenant just two months after site acquisition from Council. Four commercial floors were sub-leased to PwC and Water NSW; attracted by the unique design and collaboration opportunities with WSU and students. Works commenced in November 2014 and completed on schedule in December 2016 ahead of the University semester.
An international design competition was awarded to Architectus for the base-building design working with WSU’s fitout design team Woods Bagot. Charter Hall led a truly collaborative partnership with the entire project team and council, overcoming complex site, engineering and construction challenges through extensive stakeholder consultation to deliver the next generation of tenant-centred workspaces.
The innovative design created a unique world-class facility with a 9-storey open atrium connecting flexible spaces to foster interaction and collaboration. The placemaking strategy combines the best innovations and amenity of a leading commercial office tower with evidence-based design for a high-performing university campus with stunning public art, new public piazza and creation of a heritage walkway to create a new community destination at the centre of Australia’s fastest growing CBD.
