Aged Care

Flame Tree by Thomas Holt in collaboration with Jackson Teece Architecture

The project comprises of the redevelopment of the existing Seymour Shaw Court independent living units into a contemporary 120 bed aged care facility to address the increasing need for aged care in the Sutherland Shire community. In addition to the residential accommodation the new building house a cafe, hairdresser, physiotherapy rooms and multi-purpose spaces. The project will perform as a central node for new kitchen and laundry facilities to service the whole site.

The architectural design presented the opportunity to build a building for Thomas Holt that creates a new identity for the Kirrawee precinct. Representing a new standard of aged care the project brings together Thomas Holt’s new technology in care with a dynamic contemporary design. The building engages with the site and community through the use of a warm natural material palette. View corridors are created within the building to take advantage of the lush bushland setting and the design allows a natural flow from the indoor environment to thoughtfully landscaped gardens.  Residents and visitors alike will experience in this unique urban development a residential experience that transcends the institutional.
The project will be completed by April 2018 and currently under occupation certification process.
There has been indication of the sale price of the units along this journey of 750K to 950K.
The works have included the demolition to a portion of the existing Roden Cultler building to allow greater separation between the existing and proposed structures. The demolition included the loss of 6 resident rooms, a bath room and a utility room. The demolition of this wing created a larger central courtyard as well as a visual outlook to all rooms.
