Elements of Byron by KTQ Developments
The Elements of Byron Resort first stage opened on the 1st Feb 2016 after 6 years of planning, design and construction. This was further expanded with additional accommodation, recreation facilities and a solar train service in 2017. The resort vision was predicated on an outcome sympathetic to the sites endemic characteristics and forms, a small single-storey footprint, and an authentically Byron and Australian Beachside experience.
An approval from 1987 was modified to create the luxury 1 and 2 bedroom accommodation villas, and a new 3000m2 central resort facility was created in the form of 3 individual but connected buildings embracing a large lagoon pool and leisure precinct, featuring a distinctive curved and post-tensioned roof form which mimic the wind-swept sand dunes beyond. The second and final stage of the development added 99 new villas, an adults only pool and bar precinct, a beach club, and a solar train connecting the resort to the Byron CBD.
The whole development was integrated around the existing 1400 mature trees on site and the sites natural hydrological network of lagoons and tributaries as well as other natural constraints. Utilising industry best technology, the resort boasts a sophisticated fibre optic network carrying 15 different integrated IT systems which do everything from automate room climate with motion sensors to ordering room service via the in-room tablets. Delivered in a politically sensitive climate on a site which had a long history of development failure, including Club Med and Becton, a very well executed public relations and community consultation regime set a best practise benchmark for community and political engagement throughout the development process and was instrumental in the project success.
Elements of Byron is an holistic demonstration of a locally sensitive, sustainable and sophisticated tourism development with international acclaim and recognition.
